- I have recently used both disksalv2 and 3 to validate my disks and
- have found out:
-
- - disksalv2 is s.t. better in validatio
- - disksalv2/3 will not detect some mistakes that e.g. lead
- reorg to reject optimization and will let MaestroBR make
- only a bad backup on dat (of course I only found that out
- after I had reformated my disk, now files are missing and
- some protection flags are missing and smdtpPost will not work
- anymore :-(
- - disks that have been treated with disksalv tend to get
- problems later on. I experienced that I could get errors
- on a hd that i had checked/validated with disksalv2 just
- "for fun" or rather because I thought I would do s.th. good
- to my hd by checking them with disksalv from while to while.
- So use disksalv only when you HAVE problems.
- - Be careful with reorg - if it crashes during reorganization,
- everything is definitely lost. If it works, you will sometimes
- discover magnificent speed increase on defragmentated disks.
- Use own partitions for audio/video data that can be easily treated
- with reorg.
-
- - I also had the impression that mui (especially the old 2.3 one)
- made a lot of programs crash with 80000004 after my hd light went
- alight for a couple of seconds.
