  28. I have recently used both disksalv2 and 3 to validate my disks and
  29. have found out:

  31. - disksalv2 is s.t. better in validatio
  32. - disksalv2/3 will not detect some mistakes that e.g. lead
  33. reorg to reject optimization and will let MaestroBR make
  34. only a bad backup on dat (of course I only found that out
  35. after I had reformated my disk, now files are missing and
  36. some protection flags are missing and smdtpPost will not work
  37. anymore :-( 
  38. - disks that have been treated with disksalv tend to get
  39. problems later on. I experienced that I could get errors
  40. on a hd that i had checked/validated with disksalv2 just
  41. "for fun" or rather because I thought I would do s.th. good
  42. to my hd by checking them with disksalv from while to while.
  43. So use disksalv only when you HAVE problems.
  44. - Be careful with reorg - if it crashes during reorganization,
  45. everything is definitely lost. If it works, you will sometimes
  46. discover magnificent speed increase on defragmentated disks. 
  47. Use own partitions for audio/video data that can be easily treated
  48. with reorg.

  50. - I also had the impression that mui (especially the old 2.3 one)
  51. made a lot of programs crash with 80000004 after my hd light went
  52. alight for a couple of seconds.
